Can I paddle at Rutland Water without joining the club?

No, but you can do so through Anglian Water Sports at Whitwell Creek from whom you can hire a range of watercraft and arrange tuition.

As a member of the club can I paddle anywhere across Rutland Water?

No. Club paddles must consist of at least 3 paddlers, one of which will be the leader and have the club qualification of Main Body Leader. You can however paddle as an individual within Whitwell Creek at times outside club paddles.

How old do you have to be to join Rutland Canoe Club?

We accept members of any age. Juniors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them. This adult must also be a member and accompany them whenever they visit.

How much does it cost?

There are no charges for each time you paddle, but you will have to pay to park. Club members usually pay for an Annual parking permit.

What is the process of joining the club?

Contact us via email or after a club session at Whitwell.

Join us for a paddle or a book onto a Taster/Come and Try Session.

What is a Taster Session?

Generally these sessions take place after the club paddle on a Sunday morning. Your instructor will introduce you to basic paddling and rescue techniques. You will have to fall out of your kayak and be assisted back in. For this reason these sessions normally take place during the summer months.

Do I have to have my own kayak, paddle, etc,?

No, the club has a range of equipment in sizes suitable for most people.

What if I am an experienced paddler?

The club still requires you to attend a Taster Session.

However, if you hold any relevant Paddlesport UK ( previously British Canoeing) qualifications (or equivalents) or have years of relevant experience, we will take this into account and may simply assess your skill level at a Club session.

Still wish to become a new member of Rutland Canoe Club?

Having read the above information you should email info@rutlandcanoeclub.org.uk to book yourself on to Taster Session at Whitwell Creek. We will then find a date suitable date and send you a more information (the clothes you should wear etc. etc.).
